So what makes these shocks different?

Most traditional shocks rely on speed-sensitive damping. That means the faster the shock compresses, the more resistance it gives. It works well, but it doesn’t always respond the way you want during different parts of a bump or jump. This is where SOTA flips the script.

SOTA’s system introduces something new: position-sensitive damping. Instead of just reacting to how fast the shock is moving, it also reacts to where it is in its travel. This is a game-changer.

Here’s how it works:

Inside the shock body, there’s a cleverly designed second chamber that controls the flow of oil differently depending on how far the shock has compressed.

• At the start of the travel – say, when you're going over small bumps – the oil flows easily, allowing the suspension to absorb minor chatter and keep the tires planted.

• As the shock compresses further – like when landing a big jump or hitting a hard corner – the internal flow changes. The resistance increases, giving you more support, more control, and less bottoming out.

It’s like the shock “knows” what the car is doing and adjusts in real-time to suit the situation.

Why it matters on the track

With position-sensitive damping, your car stays smoother over rough sections and more composed on landings. You won’t get that sudden “bounce” or unpredictable rebound that can throw you off your line. Instead, you get progressive control — soft when you need compliance, firm when you need stability.

And because the system is designed around a low oil velocity approach, it runs cooler and more consistently. That means lap after lap, the handling stays sharp and predictable — no more fade after a few hot minutes on track.
