Description
The Kyosho Ultima Pro Vintage Series 1/10 2WD Racing Buggy Kit brings another legendary competition buggy back to life as the 21st release in the Kyosho Vintage Series.
Inspired by the Ultima Pro originally introduced in 1988, this re-release maintains the unmistakable styling, construction and rear-motor character of the original while incorporating carefully selected updates to improve stability, durability and ease of adjustment.
The Ultima name established its racing credentials when Kyosho achieved an incredible first, second and third-place result at the 1987 World Championships. The Ultima Pro followed by refining the successful platform with a flat aluminium main chassis and FRP upper deck, creating an effective combination of structural rigidity and controlled chassis flex.
This modern Vintage Series release combines characteristics of the original 1988 Ultima Pro with the longer front suspension arms and extended wheelbase introduced for the 1989 version. The result is a wider and more stable chassis while retaining the classic rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration that defines the Ultima Pro.
6061 Aluminium & FRP Chassis
The Ultima Pro is built around a newly produced 6061 aluminium main chassis combined with an FRP upper deck.
This double-deck configuration provides the rigidity required for consistent handling while retaining an appropriate level of chassis flex.
Long FRP front and rear shock towers increase available suspension travel, helping the buggy absorb bumps and maintain more consistent tyre contact over uneven off-road surfaces.
Long-Arm Double-Wishbone Suspension
The front suspension uses longer lower arms derived from the later 1989 Ultima Pro. The increased front track width contributes to improved stability, while the rear lower suspension arms allow toe to be adjusted by changing the suspension bushings.
Front and rear turnbuckle links make camber and steering toe adjustments easier without requiring the links to be removed from the vehicle.
Gold-Anodised Oil-Filled Shocks
The suspension is controlled by gold-anodised aluminium oil-filled shock absorbers, capturing the appearance of Kyosho's original high-end racing components.
Modern threaded spring preload adjusters replace the original clamp-style adjustment system, making spring preload faster and more precise to set.
Kyosho Fine Selection shock springs are included for both the front and rear suspension.
Ball Differential & Universal Driveshafts
A ball differential is supplied as standard, providing smooth limited-slip operation and predictable cornering across a variety of off-road surfaces.
Universal rear driveshafts efficiently transfer motor power to the rear wheels while remaining securely connected throughout suspension movement and hard landings.
Updated Steering System
The steering servo position has been rotated 90 degrees compared with the original Ultima Pro.
Combined with a revised servo-saver arm, the new arrangement provides a cleaner steering layout and a more direct, linear steering response.
Ball bearings are used throughout the drivetrain and steering system, including the servo saver.
2.2-Inch Wheels & Vintage Tyres
The Ultima Pro uses 2.2-inch wheels, providing access to a wider range of compatible racing tyres.
The supplied tyres use a medium compound at the front and soft compound at the rear, providing stable cornering and controlled handling on rough off-road surfaces.
New eight-hole wheels reproduce the visual character and offset of the original Ultima Pro design.
Flexible Nylon Rear Wing
While the original Ultima Pro used a polycarbonate rear wing, this Vintage Series release features a flexible nylon rear wing with moulded wing stays.
The updated design provides improved resistance to crash damage while maintaining the classic appearance of the buggy.
Multiple Battery Mounting Options
The chassis provides multiple battery installation configurations.
A conventional round stick-pack battery can be installed across the chassis or mounted lengthwise, allowing owners to experiment with battery positioning.
When using the lengthwise battery configuration, a suitable low-profile steering servo with a short front-to-rear dimension is required.
Authentic Ultima Pro Styling
The kit is completed with an original-style clear polycarbonate Ultima Pro body and a vintage decal scheme inspired by the original early-model packaging.
Combined with its gold shocks, eight-hole wheels, rear-motor layout and classic chassis architecture, the result is an unmistakable recreation of one of Kyosho's most significant competition buggies.
Available from Campbelltown Hobbies, the Kyosho Ultima Pro Vintage Series gives racers, builders and vintage RC collectors the opportunity to experience this legendary 2WD buggy with carefully selected updates for modern use.
